On the shores of Lake Michigan, there’s 2,000 acres of sand dunes just waiting to be explored in Silver Lake State Park. The howling, erosive winds coming off the “Big Lake” create steep inclines, changing slopes, treacherous water hazards, and sudden drop-offs.
The shifting, sugar sands of Silver Lake State Park make up some of the most beautiful dunes Michigan’s west coast has to offer, and this natural phenomenon attracts more than a million visitors a year. Join the fun and prove that your Jeep® vehicle has the muscle to climb to the top of iconic “Test Hill” while onlookers cheer the worthy vehicles and boo the failures. Michigan’s ORV enthusiasts are a rowdy bunch and they’ll let you hear it.

The park is open from April 1 to October 31, whether the sun is shining or a storm is blowing in. While you’re in the neighborhood, Michigan has other adventures, too. Check out historical Little Sable Lighthouse, the Hart-Montague bike trail, and plenty of delicious dining in the small coastal towns. Drop in to Bortell’s Fisheries for best lake perch you’ll ever taste, fresh from the Great Lakes. When the sun sets, drive right up to the water’s edge and watch the whitecaps roll on Lake Michigan.
For off-road 4×4 adventures, head to the only dunes East of Utah where you can have a private desert safari. Visit the Michigan DNR’s website for details on vehicle regulations and park rules.
We’d love to hear about your past Jeep adventures in Michigan. Submit your stories in the comments. We’re looking at you, Yoopers.
