Ah, the Jeep® Commando. Built on a CJ-6 platform and produced for six years (from 1967 to 1973), the Commando was designed to serve up some competition for the Land Cruiser and Bronco, although it was still pretty unique in its own right. Available in a few body styles, it was a 101” wheelbase vehicle packing an optional “Dauntless” V6 under the hood. It was also home to full-floating axles, Dana 27 for the front and Dana 44 for the rear.
When we think about which of our vehicles have become collectable over the years, we tend to think of ones like the Scramble from the early ‘80s or the 1971 Commando Hurst Special, in which fewer than 100 were made. It’s basically the Holy Grail to Jeep 4×4 collectors, or at least one of them.
We hope you guys are enjoying the way we’re showcasing all of these cool vintage Jeep brand models in celebration of our 70th anniversary, and we’re having a blast reminiscing on these classics. Stay tuned for more!
