What goes better with four-wheel drive than three layers of sticky sweetness? If you’re hankering for “some more” off-roading this summer, might we recommend an overnight adventure for National S’mores Day on August 10. Here’s our six-step guide to adding a campfire-side dessert to your off-roading adventure.
1. Hit the Trail – One of the pleasures of off-roading is going as far off as you can. Get away from the hustle and bustle and search out locations that only a four-wheel-drive Jeep® brand vehicle can reach. As you set out on your adventure, go in with the mindset that you’ll protect the Earth. You’re planning to make S’mores, so plan to pack away any waste you may produce.
2. Set Up Camp – There’s more than one way to set up camp. Whether you like to sleep under stars with only a sleeping bag, whether you have a pop-up tent, or whether you come prepared with Jeep Camper Trailers from Mopar®, the key is to find a place where you’re comfortable…and for S’mores, a location suitable for a campfire.
3. Start a Fire – Once you’ve rubbed your sticks together and got a nice flame going, let your fire simmer down to a steady glow so your marshmallows will cook evenly. Remember to keep your fire manageable and contained, keep safety in the front of your mind, and always take measures to prevent forest fires. We’ll turn to our old friend Smokey Bear for tips on campfire safety.
4. Roast a Marshmallow – Some like a perfectly symmetrical and browned marshmallow. Others prefer to set the puff ablaze in order to enjoy the extra charred flavor. Don’t let anyone tell you how to roast your marshmallow.
5. Warm Chocolate and Graham Crackers – The often-overlooked but key element to good S’mores is warm, sticky chocolate. Set your cracker and chocolate near the fire to achieve the perfect melt, then press the marshmallow and chocolate between two graham crackers using light, steady pressure. You want to squish the middle together without breaking the crackers.
6. S’more, Eat, Repeat – The real beauty of sitting around the fire is that affords us time to relax and to indulge. Making the perfect S’mores requires a delicate balance of toasty marshmallow, melted chocolate and crisp crackers. Fortunately, if you break a cracker, you can always make another.
Happy camping. While we’re sitting around the fire roasting marshmallows, what better time to revisit our Fireside Chat Series?
