Each Friday on the Jeep® Blog, we explore the Jeep brand’s iconic heritage by highlighting a different historical vehicle. This week’s vehicle is the 1984–1991 Jeep Grand Wagoneer (SJ).

Instead of being a vehicle of firsts, the Grand Wagoneer was in the position of being one of lasts. As the Jeep brand transferred the Wagoneer and Cherokee names to small unibody platforms, the SJ Wagoneer was preserved as a full-size SUV under the “Grand Wagoneer” moniker.
Not to be taken lightly, it was one of the most luxurious vehicles in production, affectionately known as the golden standard in the SUV market. With car manufacturers producing smaller mid-size SUVs, there just wasn’t room for a full-size anymore.
The end of an era was signaled without a lot of fanfare, with 1991 Grand Wagoneer models featuring a “Final Edition” badge on their dashboards. Do you remember the first time you saw or rode in this classic Jeep vehicle? Tell us your favorite memories in the comments section below.
