Jeep® Brand Historical Highlight: 1950 Jeepster Print Ad

We’re continuing the 70th anniversary celebration of the Jeep® brand by dusting off a few ads from our early days. This time around we’re taking a look at a full-page magazine ad featuring none other than the 1950 Jeepster. The spot spends plenty of time bragging about the workhorse Hurricane F-Head four-cylinder and its “high” 7.4:1 compression ratio. Engineers were able to squeeze lots of power and great fuel efficiency out of the engine compared to the big V8 sedans and convertibles of the day, and the Hurricane four-cylinder was one of the smoothest-running engines available at the time.

The Jeepster really was the world’s first crossover vehicle. It was intended to offer comfortable road dynamics and open-air driving while still featuring the same off-road prowess as the legendary CJ-2A, and buyers found it capable of towing the line between a rugged SUV and a comfortable car. Keep an eye out for more vintage Jeep ads in the near future.
